Adobe Lightroom 2.2 update

Posted by tekgik under kaBlog, News, Tips & Tricks

screencap_20081217_1Double good news! Adobe has released an update of their famous imaging software, the version 2.2 of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Double good news because it now supports my LX3′s  and 5D Mark II’s RAW files. See excerpt from Adobe site below.

From Adobe site

**With the release of Lightroom 2.2, there is an important exception in our DNG file handling for the Panasonic DMC LX3, Panasonic DMC FX150, Panasonic DMC FZ28, Panasonic DMC-G1 and Leica D-LUX 4. In this release the native, proprietary files from these cameras can only be converted to linear DNG files. A linear DNG file has gone through a demosaic process that converts a single mosaic layer of red, green and blue channel information into three distinct layers , one for each channel. The resulting linear DNG file is approximately three times the size of a mosaic DNG file or the original proprietary file format.

I read a great tip from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Killer Tips website which says that you can now download and use your camera profiles (Picture styles in Canon and different Color modes from Nikon).

Wow it really works even the profiles are in beta. You gotta try it!

FYI you need camera RAW 4.4 to be able to use it.

4 days with Lightroom 2.0.. not beta

Posted by tekgik under kaBlog, News, Post Processing

If you havent seen / heard of it. Lightroom 2.0 is now finished with its beta stage and Adobe is now selling the final version of the software. Luckily adobe provides a 30 days fully functional trial version of LR 2.0.I already used it in two projects, two event photography coverage 1 is coroporate and 1 personal.

I must say that the new improvements are very useful specially the brush exposure +/-. Im still fiddling with its new added feats. I also like the saturation brush. Some noticeble UI improvements in the grid folders views. Speed wise, theres a little to noticed and Adobe still didnt add an option for bumping up RAM or CPU power. Im still dissappointed with the watermarking feature which is the most useful export feature i always used.

Yeah.. so heres some screenshot with the color desaturation technique

If you are still unaware, Adobe released a new public beta of its Lightroom software. Its called Lightroom 2.0 Beta.

New in 2.0 Beta (copied from Adobe’s website)

  • Localized corrections — Enhance specific areas of an image for unsurpassed nondestructive flexibility and control reminiscent of the traditional darkroom dodge and burn experience.
  • Improved organizational tools — Find the images you need quickly and easily.
  • Multiple monitor support — Add an additional monitor to efficiently manage photographic workflow and presentation.
  • Flexible print package functionality — Create custom layouts containing multiple sizes of a photograph on a single page.
  • 64-bit support — Lightroom 2.0 now takes advantage of the latest hardware architectures with improved memory handling and performance

The beta software will expire on August 31. Download now

Warning: Its a beta software so it is bound to have bugs and problems. Use your old final version of Lightroom for serious work. Alrightie? ;)
