Do you Facebook?
Posted by tekgik under kaBlog, Tech
If not yet, then you should! Its 2009 and in this age of time you should not be left out in any technological shift. Facebook is taking on the world. I know for a fact that Filipinos are all over Friendster and Multiply, but you know what my fellow Pinoys, these two social networking site is only popular here in the Philippines. Facebook is known all over the world and it is now one of the tech giants on earth.
Lately, Facebook abruptly changed their TOS (Terms of Service) from the unfair one to the not-so-unfair one.. Well google it, many have published their thoughts against it. Just last week, FB rolled out the new home page interface which many people didnt like. I for one is on the odd side, I like it more now, because its live streaming is like Twitter. I can now see all the updates of my friends in real time.
Thats it for facebook for now, i hope Mark Zuckerberg will see this and give me slash of his pie he has now.
BTW I put my Facebook widget on the upper right part of the home page so you can see my microblogging status there!

…those SeXy netbooks!
Posted by tekgik under Gadget Lust, kaBlog, Tech
Computer manufacturers made some interesting announcements this past few weeks at the Consumer Electronic Show 2009 in Las Vegas (probably biggest gadget convention in the world).
Some that caught my interest are those SeXy netbooks! These netbooks can be my anywhere-i-go-computer. It can be a good picture viewer / downloader instead of buying those Canon M80, Creative Zen or that expensive Epson P Series picture viewers.
What I like is the HP mini 2140 and the Sony Vaio P . The HP 2140 looks to be more practical since it has a 1366 x 768 resolution good enough for simple photo editing.
The gadget lust is attacking again…

64GB memory cards
Posted by tekgik under kaBlog, Tech, Tips & Tricks
This is not good. As I’ve said digital is not cheap especially if its in your line of work. Recently i bought 2 pcs of 16GB CF cards, Its a Sandisk Extreme III compact flash cards capable of writing 30mb/s. This is in conjunction with my new venture in HD video recording with the Canon 5D Mark II. I now have a total of 64GB memory that I spread to all of my three camera bags for emergency.
BTW I still have those 256MB cards at home just for keeps

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Firware Update
Posted by tekgik under kaBlog, News, Tech, Tips & Tricks
Firmware Update Version 1.0.7 improves and mitigates the following two types of image quality phenomena that occur under certain shooting conditions.
- “Black dot” phenomenon (the right side of point light sources become black)
- Vertical banding noise
Firmware Version 1.0.7 is for EOS 5D Mark II cameras with firmware up to version 1.0.6. If the camera’s firmware is already version 1.0.7, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
Notes:
When updating to Firmware Version 1.0.7, please also update the Digital Photo Professional and Picture Style Editor software. Firmware Version 1.0.7 can be downloaded from the bottom of this page. Updates for Digital Photo Professional and Picture Style Editor can be downloaded from the following Web site.
I dont like the idea of that magenta cast on sRAW file. The black dots is no biggie to me so Il probably wait for the “complete” that includes the magenta issue on sRAW’s.
See the complate firmware update page here

The Live View and 2 sec. timer
Posted by tekgik under kaBlog, Reviews, Tech
The Live View of this 21mp monster is a joy to use. The simulation exposure and quick mode AF of the 5D Mark II are some of the very practical feats that need to maximized with this cam, I don’t need to stoop-bend-etc just to compose a shot. Moreover the 10x up to 15x focus check feature is a heaven sent for the non-perfect 20 / 20 eyed photographer. Hi-res and 920 dots LCD you say? Canon made this even better with their new anti-reflective technology and an inteliigent atuo brightness feature. I noticed these nifty features when I reviewed the EOS 50D last spetember, I can say now that their Live View functions are very identical.
The Live View will have its use for the style of photography (ehem videography) I do, In fact I already did with that “Mimosa overnight sensation” trip.. Video coming soon (im still reading the Final Cut Express tutorial)!
What about the 2 seconds timer? I purposely left my shutter release. But I know that it is a primary consideration that you should not use the cameras shutter button on a tripod if you are below the minimum acceptable speed, but it came out pretty handy, 1-1000.. 2-1000 then you I have my shot..
These are the nice things that Canon should have done 3 years ago
